It didn't work out instantly for me either, the tools take quite a bit of getting used to. But when you manage to get things to look the way you want, it's definitely worth it. I'm having a lot of fun with this thing. Make a few more tries, you'll see it improve.

...wanted to do an octopus after fluid's and 24.  Discovered the name of that spiny deep sea cephalopod is the vampire squid.  1st attempt began weeks ago & proved incredibly difficult for me.  Couldn't figure out a "viable" body structure (um...4-D axis of symmetry?).  Also had technical difficulties - even now missing "bits."  (Geek Critique: "Gee I hope her head has a better blood supply than just that thin, flimsy membrane.")  1st attempt left neglected on desktop X 1.5 weeks, finally a severe electrical storm cut the power and wiped all the crap away - probably mercifully.   Black background / no outline / clean slate.  Jason, you cannot say this is porn for only a squid beak rests hidden between her legs.  Sry 4 reply / sry long / sry still not anime style.  Pls Password help / where to set up? / I R 2 dumb.

Thought it would work to start with darkest shade and layer lighter.  (works on white.)  However, in retrospect not sure.  The bottom dark layer just seems to leave behind that smoky-looking residue on black background.  Most of the diagonal "smoke" lines were made with the darkest possible purple / desire smoother gradient.  In my opinion, better are the UFO things in background.  The halo around white UFO is from a single pass of watercolor tool (opacity set low, too).  Less is more I guess - just one stroke & I like it better than all my smoky labor.  Also guess I should find a pic of something glowing to find out why it doesn't look like smoke.
